Talk about it

Hello again!

The week has started somewhat busy and so it continues! Next weekend I´ll be performing at two private perties which means that unfortunately I´m missing the Turku Burlesque Weekend including the Newcomer´s Night on Friday and the "Neon Safari" on Saturday. If you are on the West coast do NOT miss this! There will be amazing performances from the Luminous Pariah and Hedoluxe and many, many more!!!

Pepper Sparkles, Sir Willy Waterlily and the Itty Bitty Tease Cabaret will be all at the Stockholm Burlesque Festival this Friday - nice Finnish line up there ;) I´ve heard it´s sold out... Drop a tassel, my friends!

On a more serious note I´ve read today a great column by Carina Kolodny on The conversation you must have with your sons. It´s a very good read that I recommend for EVERYBODY, even you who don´t have any kids of your own. It´s spot on about the double standards we -maybe often unintentionally-, carry on to the next generations. Why do we tell girls to "be careful how you dress so you don´t give the wrong impression" while "boys will be boys"? Girls and women still get more easily labelled "sluts" and "easy" -often totally without any real justification, while sexually active (straight) boys and men are easier called "players" which carry a totally different tone (and less labelling). We really need to stop demonizing female sexuality as something that needs to be kept "under guard". We need to stop putting guilt and shame on girls who choose to be sexually active. If it´s ok for boys why is it not for girls? We might judge fundamentalists in other cultures for misogony but often fail to see that our culture is not that perfect, either. It might be different but that does not mean the work with this is done. And I´m on purpose not even going into the heteronormativity of this but I´ve talked about it before.
It starts with things like teaching our young ones how to talk and how to act with other people. It´s VERY MUCH about the words we use and adults letting slutshaming go "unheard". Girls can be as cruel to other girls, it´s not acceptable, either. And as adults we need to start paying attention to the norms  (as in unwritten rules) we portray and start thinking about the stuff we say and how we say it.
There has been horrific examples of gang rapes where the victim has been blamed (by the whole surrounding community, none the less!) or where girls are held accountable for the way men objectify them (link in Carina´s post) - it NEEDS TO STOP.
So if you do nothing else tonight, read this.

Other than that, it´s toodle-doo and have a grrreat night! Love, peace and happiness to ya´ll!!!

För alla er härliga som ska uppträda i Stockholm i helgen <3

Carpe Diem

My blue, spandex-clad friend was right (again). All of a sudden I want to make a stupid reference to mothers always being right, but maybe it´s not that far fetched? Scotty the Blue Bunny has been doing and breathing burlesque since the Tyrannosaurus walked the earth (according to himself - I would never dare to say that. The rule of "don´t guess the age of a drag queen" also goes for spandex bunnies in my book)  so he *knows* his shit. So I took his advice, put down my phone and did not take one single picture of the show last night. There were professional photographers present. As usual.

Last night was History in Making- an evening of all male performers in Hellsinki, three newbies on stage among a stone hard line up. Pun intended ;) It was living, stripping proof of that we have a pretty awesome scene going here!!!

When I locate photos of performances I will beg, steal and borrow to get them, in the meantime here are some snaps from between the sets. Thank you everyone involved, Bettie and Epe for organizing, friends and performers for making a wonderful night! Love is in the air!

Thee Dizzy Daisies. I seem to have broken the suspender rule.
Sir Willy. <3
My friend who came to see burlesque for the FIRST time got a blue hug.
Pepper and Molla, revealed.
The Men.
More hugs.
Tinker Bell. She is so gorgeous even from behind.

Tink and Macha.
With Hedoluxe. This guy. No words <3

All Male! One week to go!

Pic stolen from www.sewdishhousewife.com

Friday. What a glorious excuse :) I have done work, 3h worth of dancing (of which two with Tinker Bell working on my up coming number) and now I´m sitting with some sparkling wine and shitloads
(I´m teling you: LOTS!!! as in thousands) of glitter stones, tons of glue and trying to pimp that costume up. Not doing that grand, let me tell you. I´m pretty tired and the wine is about the only thing sparkly at the table right now.

Well, no need to be sad, though. That is, it´s exactly ONE week to go to the first time ever- all male performers- burlesque-event in Finland! Aatamin asussa -ainakin melkein is ON next week Friday at Ravintola Kaisaniemi. There will be the wonderful Finnish performers in new combos and set up´s and it does not stop there:  Hedoluxe from Hamburg will be shaking his thang and there is my favorite Bunny to host the whole extravaganza!!! Do not miss this!

This season I´ve been mainly...

Have you ever watched the Fast show? I´s this brilliant British comedy series. One of my favourite characters is this man coming out from a barn or something announcing that "this season I´ve been mainly wearing yogurt" or some similar nonsense :) I know, it´s stupid written down but it´s hilarious. British comedy really works for me...Absolutely Fabulous, the Black Adder...Smack the Pony must be one of my all time favourites. Here´s one that might give burlesquers an extra kick:

But this week I haven´t been mainly wearing yogurt (even if it would probably be great for the skin) but doing stuff like...

Organizing my hair thingies.
Got red?
Practicing with Tinker Bell @ Raspberry Fields.
Wearing leg warmers very 80´s style because it´s COLD!
Thinking about Aatamin asussa-boylesque happening 08th of Feb. Here´s me with Hedoluxe last HBF.

Men on stage!

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a eat turn of the year, I know I did...the "Come as you are NOT"-party was a blast and a few friends stayed over for the actual New Years Eve. Today finds me back at work, tired but happy!

This year the warm up club for the Helsinki Burlesque Festival is organized almost a month before the actual event but boy! oh boy! what an evening this will be :) The stage will be filled with boys and men ONLY so don´t miss this! Put aside whatever notions you might have of the men in burlesque and come see what it *really* is! Host of the evening will be the magnificent Scotty the Blue Bunny!!! Tickets 20e from Tiketti!
