Ginger & spice

Ginger has been one of my all time favourite spices. But for the actress Ginger...I guess she really never shook my boat. I always thought of her as "that cute tap-dancing gal". Nothing wrong with cute nor tap-dance but I did prefer the ladies with a , -shall we call it a ´reputation´ ;)
So you can imagine that when I started looking for pictures that would inspire my new outfit I was very surpriced to find this photo of Ginger Rogers in what I´ve read is referred to as "The Dress".
Yes, it was my inspiration. And no, it came out nothing as dramatic as the original. And you could hang me up-side-down and still I´d surely manage to tremple on Mr.Astaire´s feet so I am no Ginger.

But a girl can always dream, right?

So here I was, the image of that pure girl next-door forever gone (for surely they don´t wear anything like *that*!?!?) so I got curious... And I was right: look what the google dragged in!

Well, well...Ginger-baby sure could strike a pose!

And wait, is that a garter I see? With cash stuck under it?!

This last photo must be my new favourite. I wish somebody would organize a theme-party, any theme! soon so I could try to remake this blingy-thingy!
It´s almost like she has the wheel of fortune stuck on her crotch - and this with ALL do love and respect.

Wow. It´s awesome to be able to say dang! I was wrong! Ginger ROKKS. And if I ever get a girl like that next door I´ll be a very lucky broad indeed.

New number in process

I have never considered myself a person who loves to *craft* things. You know there are people like that, handy persons who can make *anything* almost out of nothing. Somehow it often accelerates at weddings when brides force their bridesmaids, mothers, cats and neighbors to hand-make everything from cards, decorations to you-name-it. I don´t want to be sexist here, but so far I haven´t heard of a guy who does this :) I´m sure there are plenty. ANYHOW, I´ve never been like that UNTIL I found burlesque. Now I can sit for *hours* glueing, sowing or just knick-knacking away on glittery stuff. So these "brooches" you see here are a miracle. I´ve bought styrofoam balls, cut them , painted them and glued all kinds of glittery shit on them because I figured I wouldn´t be able to find two similar vintage-looking brooches for my dress. They look like pixie-cupcakes. Or maybe more like a pixie threw up on a cupcake...
Trust me, as an old punker I was very against glitter. Glam rock was not really my thing (part from Bowie and even that was when I was a bit older). Also I cannot sew even if my life depended on it. I still can´t!  If it wasn´t for Ansku at Saramai I would not have a clue how to do these dresses. She is simply divine: none of my crazy ideas are impossible, she´ll make them all happen! So when I wanted a 40´s inspired dress with a cape-ish thing (think Ginger Rogers) I got one. The brooches are just pinned in here for the photo so they don´t look that good but you get an idea.
The underwear are easier to get a grip of. Here´s a sneak peak, got a bit more done today. The frillies are still unattached on the panties.
Here´s the "whole" (outer) ensemble. There´s still more glitz to come (duh!) but I´m really happy with the outcome. And I have the music! So after the Gala the 15th of October I will start rehearsing this big time.
Then there´s also that Christmas-number I´ve got planned out.... Pheew! Well, ta-ta for now. I´ve declared myself flue-free and am back to work tomorrow!

Colors and a bit of a wedding

It´s a gorgeous day; sunshine, the colors of Fall...and I´m sick again. This time I also lost my voice. Trying to keep my spirits up with positive thinking, which made me look at this piece of art I have at home: the cake-topper from our wedding made by the awesome Tapani Kokko. He is a friend and a neighbor and a well-recognized artist who has had exhibitions both in Finland and abroad, latest Paris and Rotterdam http://festivalwww.nl/en/artist/tapani-kokko-finland/

I love his work! It´s a mix of naïve and grotesque, lots of colors, skulls, sexuality...reminds me a bit of South American stuff, the Day of the Dead and such.
Add a bit of Autumny colors; pumpkins, apples and gerberas and it made a pretty stilleben. Sunshine is a nice bonus :)

Staring at the topper took me back to that wedding day. We celebrated our 4th wedding anniversary in the beginning of September - time flies! This photo was taken in the car on our way to church. I was really nervous and the driver kept joking that we still had time to turn around and he could drive me to the airport if I´d like that.

I´m glad I chose not to ;)

Whats a girl to do....

It was a lovely weekend with a friends bachelorette-party, sunny Autumn days and then comes rainy Monday. ..*sigh*
Well, what is a girl to do for a little pick-me-up? Shopping of course! I (duh!) need a new dress for this wedding which will be in November, being one of the bridesmaids and all...So I found this wonderful video of inspirational pin up´s from the WW II-era and now I´m off to the wonderful world of internet shopping...Vivien of Holloway, Trashy Diva, Stop Staring!...I´m sure I will find something! Kiss!

A note a day later: found my dress!!! Trashy Diva 40´s dress <3

PinUp´s and beefcakes

I´ve been lying at home, sick with a cold and sinuses aching for days now so you can imagine the pleasure when I opened my e-mail and found these pictures! They were taken a few weeks back by the PinUpHelsinki-team ( Mentioned here ) and turned out fabulous!!! Not going to post *all* of them yet, have to have something to look forward to ;)
Really nice to see oneself looking pretty, since well- the last days "pretty" hasn´t been used in other contexts than "pretty awful cough" or "pretty bad fever". So thank you again Fiona, Miia and Saara!!!! <3

I hope I get all my juju back before the weekend since there´s a bachlorette-party of a dear friend coming up and also because I am a bit bored. As much as I love True Blood - watching season 4 in one sitting really ain´t that good for ya ...I´m driving my baby up the walls!

On that note I guess I have to post my new fave Ware here as well - enjoy!

Wet Wednesday

It´s raining, it´s pouring...
Bettie Blackheart was marvellous enuf to make me a new logo - chocolate shoes! As praline is well, -chocolate- and I do have " a few" shoes it´s quite appropriate.
Then again, a girl has never too many shoes nor bags, right? Won´t post any pictures since it´s going to be up there for all of you to see. When I have my head right on and it´s not in the middle of the night I´ll try to adjust it a bit better. Learning -by-doing here...

If you want to see Bettie, the Dizzies own Pepper Sparkles and a lot of other scary, wonderful and daunting performances both burlesque and sideshow you should go to Tampere for the Horror & Tease Show this Halloween 28th of October! The fest is organized by lovely Miss Olivia Rouge - I for sure will try to clear my calendar for this!

New logo for Thee Daisies!

Logo by www.bettieblackheart.com
We got a new logo! Yey! The very talented Bettie Blackheart designed this for us, ideas of old 50´s diner sign was thrown around and I think it came out beautifully. A bit edit here: Bettie made the logo to represent each of us, which I last night all tired and out of it, didn´t get. Chewing-gum between my brain-synapses...No White Ladies: the leopard glass is of course the sassy Ms.Jungle, Sparkling stars in a Pepper-shaker should be obvious as well as the pralines which I´m sure could represent...well yeah. Despite the wrong interpretations of last night I still love it :) If possible, even more. Cheers, ladies! Oh, and supergirl Saara Salmi is working on our webpage so that should be coming soon as well!

This Gala is a perfect opportunity to see a lot of the Finnish BurlyQ in action!!! I heard rumours that the tickets are going fast, so you should get your quickly!  Thee Dizzy Daisies on stage for the first time ever - very excited about that!
I´ll be spending the weekend up in Northern Carelia, far away from glitz and glam, berry- and mushroom picking in my glittery rubberboots. Have a great weekend y´all!!!
