Croatian Burlesque Festival

I´ve wanted to visit Croatia for a really long time and can´t wait to finally be able to in two weeks! I will be performing at the first Croatian burlesque festival on Friday the 26th May and then I´ll teach my Shimmering High Heels-workshop the following day!

It´s an easy and fun class for everyone - you don´t need to be a dancer nor a performer to participate! Be sure to sigh up - more info here !

The Shangri-La School of Showgirlsien tiiviskurssisarja Mahtavat Maanantait esittää: KORKKARIKIMMELLYS!
Opi kävelemään ja tanssimaan korkokengissä! Tapahtuma täällä .

Oletko aina halunnut kävellä korkokengillä mutta uskallus loppuu? Miten jalat jaksavat koko illan upeissa (mutta epäkäytännöllisissä) kengissä? Huutavatko jalat hoosiannaa pikkujoulusesonkia ajatellessakin?

Tässä upea mahdollisuus valmistautua vastaanottamaan loppuvuoden juhlakausi säihkyvästi ja itsevarmuutta uhkuen! Työpajassa käydään läpi korkkari-asiaa aina kenkien valinnasta perus kävely- ja liikkumistekniikkaan. Lisäksi treenataan itsetuntoa, tasapainoa ja kävelyä. Tuntien aikana tehdään fyysisiä harjoitteita ja helppoa koreografiaa joten varaa matkaan tanssimiseen sopivat kengät (ei kiilakorkoja tai ulkojalkineita) ja mukava liikuntavaatetus (esim. legginsit) sekä vesipullo! Tunneilla myös lihaskunto-osuus!

Kurssin ohjaa burleskiesiintyjä-ja opettaja Gigi Praline.

Kurssin kesto on kaksi viikkoa (2x75min) ja hinta on 38€.
Voit myös osallistua tunneille kertamaksulla, jolloin hinta on 20€/ opetuskerta.
Studion sarja- ja anytime kortit käyvät myös maksuna, jolloin kortista merkataan yksi normaali 60min tunti käytetyksi.

In English: I´m teaching my Sparkling High Heels-workshop in two parts this November at the Studio Shangri-La in Helsinki! We will go through techniques how to walk and move, basic info about shoes and work on easy choreo, self-esteem and balance.

Burlesque Follies! Athens!

I´ve never been to Athens. I´ve been to a bunch of Greek islands and Parga but never Athens, and it´s been my dream for years. I probably have a very romantic idea about the city but as I love history this place holds me intrigued.

I now have the possibility to go AND take my kit off as well! La Dandizette, whom I met at the Vienna Boylesque festival in 2014 is having both me and Dick over and I´m OVER THE MOON! I get to both see the Acropolis and teach a workshop PLUS perform so if you´re in town this weekend be sure to join us for the fun <3

Paja toteutuu jos 8 osallistujaa!!!! Peruutukset lääkärintodistuksella. Jos paja peruuntuu järjestäjän taholta maksut palautetaan kokonaisuudessaan.

Kahden tunnin työpaja jossa tutustutaan burleskin historiaan ja tehdään kehollisia harjoitteita pareittain ja ryhmässä. Työpajassa harjoitellaan mm. katsekontaktin ottamista, sensuellia liikkumista pilke silmäkulmassa (bump&grind, shimmy), löydetään oman kehon ihanimmat kohdat ja tehdään hauskoja treenejä puuhkien ja hanskojen kanssa. Ei sisällä riisumista! Pajassa saattaa tulla lämmin mutta varsinaisia hikitreenejä emme pidä.

Pukeutuminen: rento, mukava asu jossa mielellään näkee kehon muodot ja jossa on helppo liikkua. Korkokengät auttavat ryhdin ja liikkumisen kanssa mutta eivät ole pakollisia! Jos tuot korkokengät varmista että ne ovat sisätiloihin sopivat ja että pohjat ovat puhtaat / tuo korkosuojat.

Muuta: voit halutessasi ottaa mukaan kirjoitusvälineet mutta tärkeintä on avoin mieli ja pilke silmäkulmassa!

Burlesque Day in Pori

This Friday I´m off to Pori so I´ll be there on the spot to teach my Korkkarikimmellys-high heels workshop on Saturday! I have to be back in Helsinki for the evening (HENRY ROLLINS spoken word <3 ) and the public transportations is a bit if-fyish so the time for the workshop has been changed to a tad earlier! Check out the info of the day here! Sea Breeze will be teaching tassel-making and a lot of fun stuff going on!

I quick reminder that the tix for the Helsinki Burlesque Festival are selling pretty damn quick so stop thinking about it and go to Tiketti and get yours! It´s the 9th of ten festivals so after this there will be only one left with this concept so you really don´t want to miss this PLUS the line-up is pretty damn incredible!

The ex-Tourettes aka The XXXettes will take the stage on both nights and we have a brand new number for ya´ll ;)

Last gig of the year!

Tonight is my last gig of this year -it´s been a pretty hectic week with a lot of work and this is the third nights of performing in a row but I´M SO EXCITED! i get to share the stage with some of my favourite people <3 See you at Tehdas everyone!!!

Werk!

After a fabulous work/hoiday in Germany (super thanks once more to Sven & the crew at the Queen <3 ) it´s bak home and back at werk! A quick reminder: I know it´s still Summer etc but if you have a party planned that you´d like me / Thee Dizzy Daisies to perform the sooner you ask, the better the chances to get us are! The so-called "pikkujoulukausi" is here sooner than you can say Santa Claus!
In August there will be two (2!) Minäkin Kimmellän!- burlesque 101-workshops on Sunday the 9th  organized by Perhosvoltti in Tikkurila (Vantaa) so be sure to sign up via them!
September will bring us our new studio - Raspeberry Fields moved to the other side of the building in Lauttasaari, Hellsinki and is now Studio Shangri-La (School of Showgirls) where Thee Dizzy Daisies will be teaching burleskitanssi  level 1 classes on Mondays! Tinker Bell and Turrrbo-Cherry are teaching levels 2-3. There will also be other dance, yoga and pilates classes so be sure to sign up! More info here !

So it looks like a lot of planning ahead -I love it! I´m also working on my Dirty Dancing-tribute number as well as pimping up my old "black numer" aka Kiss of a shy girl- they will both premiere later this Fall AS WELL AS a new group number from Thee Daisies! Holy glitter, Batman!

Happy Friday everyone!

And indeed, a happy one it is! HBF kicked off on Wednesday with the first workshops and today is the first day of shows at Gloria! I really do hope you have tickets because the last time I checked tomorrow is sold out and for tonight there are only a few left! The line-up is amazing! I got to meet some of the performers last night at the meet & greet and they are such sweethearts even if there is a some jetlag and flue going around <3
A big thank you at the moment especially to Perle Noire and Kitten de Ville whom I had the pleasure of assisting at their workshops! You ladies are a true ispiration and raise the bar of performing  sky-high!!! I learned so much!
21st Century Burlesque made a piece on the Helsinki Burlesque Festival and why it´s so popular and in high demand, please read it here! Bettie Blackheart is one helluva producer & performer and an ispiration and I´m so proud to be able to call her my "burlesque-mom" <3

Practice, practice...

Our studio tends to get a bit cold this time of the year, so it´s woollen socks and proper warm up that makes all the difference! Making a new number is such a pleasure, well at least at the point when things start "clicking" together. My dress is in the making and I have been planning stuff with Tyra Therman as well so this is definetly getting there! For my upcoming number the boost was my fantastic HUGE boa that burlesque legend Fannie Annie in Las Vegas made for me and that Bettie Blackheart kindly enough crammed into her suitcase from NYC last Fall. The next step was thinking of a story and then finding the right music...Now I´m working on the coreo and as some of you might remember that´s *always* the hardest part for me! I´m really looking forward the workshops of Perle Noire and Kitten DeVille next week since I really think they will help me hugely with my on going project!

People often ask where I get the initial ideas to new numbers from - it´s really hard to say sometimes. Mostly with me it has been the musical inspiration that comes firstly. It´s funny because I seldomly listen to music these days without thinking "hmmm, can I use this in something...?" It´s also a lot about research and trying to google if anyone has made anything similar before. One wants to be original and it´s a BIG no-no to rip other performers stuff!!!

I also tend to collect bits and pieces of costuming, jewellery, fabrics etc for future use. Sometimes I never use it, usually though a good portion of a number is things I´ve had for a good year. Sometimes it´s just an idea that I store up for future reference: like what kind of underwear I´d like to have or what colors I´d like to use. I have a little black notebook for ideas and store inspirational photos on my laptop.

Also something that is really important for me to get the number finished is a deadline :) Yup, I´m one of those. I might have a good idea and almost finished costume but until I have a set date when to perform it...well, let´s just say it´s a challenge.

Long time

It´s been a while, hasn´t it?
between being really sick with a damn cold and a trip to Stockholm there hasn´t been much going on. I have officially declared Spring in the form of changing my kitchen curtains and buying a fabulous Frida-Kahlo-ish wax cloth for my big table! It´s bright turquoise with pink roses and I LOVE IT!
I was supposed to go and see Pepper Potemkin shake her thang last Saturday in Stockholm but having 38 degrees fever kinda put a stop to that plan :( Good thing is, she is coming to Helsinki Burlesque Festival next week!
NEXT WEEK! I´m taking workshops with Perle Noire and am happy to be Kitten DeVille´s workshop assistant -can´t wait to meet these amazing ladies! I´m trying not to stress about festival outfits, I will take the easy way out this year even if me, Sandy and Pepper do have an idea for Friday-night!
Looking forward to tomorrow at Raspberry Fields, I´ll be working on my upcoming number and making some coreo-changes with Sandy for some of Thee Daisies stuff. Just hope this snot would disappear from my head!!!

Inspirational Saturday

 Snow! What a wonderful excuse for seasonal photos ;) I´m soon off to Tampere for a workshop with Champagne Sparkles who stole my heart at HBF with her wonderful & humorous numbers. Springtime!

Tonight there will be some amazing shaking and shimmying going on at Kaisaniemi. How do I know? Because I took both Minnie Tonka's and Erochica Bamboo's workshops last night. These women are FIERCE! Plus there will be some excellent Finnish performers as well !
Last Thursday we had a show at Bar 7 Blings, good fun. The stage was a challenge since it's divided with a pillar and the audience in sitting in different directions, but I like that one has to step over the comfort zone and really work the audience :) One thing I have learned is that I try to make numbers that fit on different sized stages or things that can be modified. "In Flames" unfortunately can't be done in very small spaces due to the veil and fans might come with challenge. My upcoming "Praline Airlines" is... To be seen haha! I'm getting the last bits of my outfit today and the premiere will be next Saturday in Tampere. Have a great weekend and hope to see tonight in Kaisaniemi!
